Matthew Hodson, a native of London, serves as the Executive Director of the British charity aidsmap, where he channels his passion for activism. His educational journey led him to university, where he studied Philosophy and Sociology, and later to drama college, where he immersed himself in performing arts. Matthew successfully navigated roles in the West End and secured acting jobs in film and television, showcasing his diverse talents.

However, Matthew’s life took a profound turn when he was diagnosed with HIV, a condition he has courageously lived with for twenty-five years. The impactful message, “ignorance = fear; silence = death,” echoed through his mind, a sentiment boldly proclaimed by the radical AIDS activist group Act Up. This message fuelled Matthew’s determination to break the silence surrounding HIV and dispel the ignorance that had claimed the lives of those dear to him.

In 1999, Matthew Hodson entered the realm of HIV charity work with a singular purpose—to combat ignorance and silence through knowledge. Motivated by the losses he witnessed, he aspired to share intelligence, fostering understanding and empowerment among those affected by HIV.

As the executive director of aidsmap, Matthew is pivotal in providing HIV news and treatment information. This organisation is dedicated to supporting individuals living with HIV, not only in the UK but also on an international scale. aidsmap’s mission is clear: to enable people to lead longer and healthier lives by arming them with the knowledge and support needed to navigate the complexities of living with HIV.
