Miss B
Miss B underwent her annual blood tests at her general practitioner’s office, discovering an unexpectedly high platelet count. This led to her referral to the Haematology/Oncology department, where an extensive eight-month evaluation occurred. During this period, a doctor questioned Miss B about her previous CD4 blood tests, which she answered negatively. This prompted an explanation about the test’s role in assessing immunity levels. Post the CD4 test, Miss B received a swift call within 24 hours, disclosing a diagnosis of HIV positivity with a CD4 count of 164, indicating advanced HIV (normal counts should exceed 250).
Immediately, she initiated Antiretroviral Drug therapy, and with time, her immune system demonstrated substantial improvement. Miss B not only survived the ordeal but now boasts a healthy immune system and maintains an undetectable viral load.
